College Planning

9th Grade

* Create a four-year high school plan.  Think about what you’d like to accomplish in the next four years.

  • Think and talk with your counselor about what you’d like to accomplish in the next four years, & what electives you should consider taking in 10th grade. Get to know courses offered at NCPA.

* Start thinking about your life after school.  What types of jobs are interesting to you? These will change - often - but start opening yourself up to the possibilities.

  • Through 9th grade Advisory, develop understanding of strengths and interests, take inventories on Naviance, begin to develop short- and long-term goals.

  • Start to communicate with other people such as your school counselor, teachers, NCPA Alumni, professionals in the community, etc. about careers you might find interesting.

* Meet with your high school counselor.  Your counselor knows how to help you get the most out of high school. Discuss your post-high-school plans with your counselor!

* Participate in extracurricular activities.  Explore your interest in a sport, club, music group, or community activity.

  • Remember that colleges would rather see real involvement in one activity instead of a loose connection to many activities.

O  Summer Holidays.Look for a job, internship, or volunteer position during your summer vacations that will help you to learn more about a field of interest.
